Notes from the 30th Wacken Festival 2019 and what to choose: hotel or camping

Traditionally, our tour on Wacken Open Air (Germany) consists of eight days of travel by bus / ferries through Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. This is a real test in a good way with impressions for every metalhead from the European capitals, the road and the most important event of a summer filled to capacity with music and fun.

On the first day, our bus tour started from St. Petersburg to Helsinki and immediately took the night ferry to Stockholm. It is worth noting that on the ferry it is better to order a buffet for dinner and breakfast, so you will be calm about your stomach and peace, and on the road - this is the most important thing. We also recommend connecting roaming in order to be in touch with Internet access (with our daily attachment to a smartphone, it is better to protect ourselves from the stress of a lack of Internet).

In the morning of the second day, we arrived in Stockholm, where we had a whole day to walk around the city center (we recommend visiting the Armory and the Museum of the Middle Ages, admission is free). In order not to spend extra money on food, you can ask our guide where there is a grocery store with an inexpensive salad bar. Next, we had a night bus ride through Sweden and Denmark.

By about ten in the morning of the third day, one of the buses was at the hotel, and the second bass arrived at the festival camp. A specially designated area for our group at the campsite is conveniently located a five-minute walk from the parking lot and aisle to the stages, as well as a few steps from the grill, showers and toilets. Groups of the same travel partners from Europe and Latin America became neighbors in World Metal Camping.

Pay attention to the waterproofness of your tent: in case of rain or night fog, we recommend that you bring an additional awning or film with which you can cover the tent, then you will be sure that moisture will not penetrate inside. It is also convenient if you have a small burner with you and a supply of food for cooking yourself.

At the campsite and on the territory of the Wacken Open Air festival, there is free access to drinking water. In addition, in the last two years, Metal Markt has appeared on Wacken, where you can buy beer, salads, pastries, charcoal for grilling, semi-finished meat products, etc. at Russian prices (or even cheaper!).

There are ATMs at the festival, so there is no special need to carry a lot of cash, if not enough, you can always withdraw it on the spot in case you cannot pay with a card in the place you need.

This time we were lucky with the weather: it was sunny and even hot, a couple of times the rain came to the rescue and brought down the heat. There were no heavy rains, but in this case it is better to have rubber boots with you, or buy them at the fest.

So, now what should you choose: a hotel or a camping? If you have the experience of living in a tent, then choose camping without hesitation: it is cheaper and gives a lot of freedom during open air days. You are not tied to the general schedule and transfers, at any time you can relax in your tent, go to the shower and so on. But also be prepared for non-stop parties :-D If comfortable sleep is most important to you, then the hotel is your option. So this choice is pretty simple.

Imperceptibly and inexorably approaching the morning after the third day of the festival, when we had to go back. In these moments, you are already sure that sooner or later you will return to Wacken or another major festival - it will be worth it!

We are lucky, the tour program assumes a couple of days on the road before and three days after the festival (and some have even more). At this time, we can switch first from the usual rhythm of life to parties and fun, and then after open-air we can feel a little sad about its end and come to our senses before returning to real life. On the way back, we had one day, first in Copenhagen, and then again in Stockholm, where we still had the opportunity to admire the beautiful northern capitals. Then a ferry from Stockholm to Turku and the final transfer to St. Petersburg were waiting for us!

P.S. More than a week has passed since returning from this tour, and notifications of new messages in our chats in instant messengers and social. the networks still do not cease: everyone still experiences endless emotions from the trip, shares photos and videos, and, of course, they miss our metalhead team, which means that we will definitely hit the road together in our dream! Stay Metal!
